A new season begins with much more excitement that follows the daily activity of residents of Jericho, a small town, who wake up to find themselves the only survivors in America of a blast and they struggle against survival. In this new season, Jake and Maj plan to host a visitor from the Cheyenne government.

Well the good news is that the show is kinda-sorta ratcheting up the focus on the "what happened" story, plus it's looking more into how the country as a whole is dealing with its post-nukey self. The bad news is, I totally don't care anymore. At all.

On paper, the idea of building a new democracy from the ruins of war while government contractors run amok is just as strong as the original premise of Jericho. But the execution remains mediocre.

Compressing an entire season's worth of action and twists and turns into a mere seven episodes, Jericho barrels along like a runaway train, stopping only to take on fresh shipments of paranoia.

If the plots in Jericho can be a little too transparent, the ideas are fun to chew on, in a what-if sort of way. The world is well-constructed, down to the details.

Jericho is more than an 800-pound metaphor. It works because it gets the little dramas right.
