Historical Events In a story full of excitement and excitement, Luciano takes over New York crowds, organizing the five families. Luciano's strength is growing, as does federalism. Luciano's entry into prostitution gives Thomas Dewey the opportunity to arrest and bring him to trial. But Luciano was convicted of running the prostitution ring and going to jail, leaving Vito Genovese as acting president.

Many Mafia classics have been faulted for glamorizing the criminal lifestyle; in that respect, the plodding "Making of the Mob" is a good antidote.

A lot of notorious names are shown doing bad things during The Making of the Mob, but sitting through the first few hours, it's that stoop-to-conquer mentality, more than anything else, that really seems criminal.

The Mafia is one of those subjects in which fiction is stronger than truth. Although The Making of the Mob tries hard, it still feels like a pale imitation of the fake thing.

It's all handsomely produced and cogently told, even if the soundtrack and dramatizing can sometimes be akin to over-baked zitti.
