As usual, the real-life complexities of foreign-policy peacekeeping were presented as a comic-strip soap saga - Hollyoaks in fatigues - which is apparently all BBC One thinks its midweek audience can manage.

I've never been in the Army, but I can't imagine anybody involved with the making of Our Girl has either.

In the five years since Our Girl was first broadcast its original frame - naïve girl runs off to join the Army, like Private Benjamin but without the jokes - has been more or less completely dismantled.

They overdo the void-before-the-storm thing to the extent of almost forgetting to have any weather at all.
