The third season begins by killing the famous local author John Rothstein. Hodges seems to be collapsing completely after John's death, an issue that has sparked real controversy. Lu then deals with the repercussions of his highly controversial case as he is being tried for the murder of Brady Hartsfield. It seems that Peter Sauber from high school will change course because of a crushing discovery.

These are memorable characters and are given terrific dialogue, though holding it all together is [Brendan] Gleeson's charismatic turn as the crotchedy but decent Bill, intent on doing the right thing in his dogged pursuit of truth and justice.
