The series is back in Season 3 after David wanted Oliver to be forced to give information about Syd's place. This season, things develop especially after the defeat of David which was against Farouk, where the real face of the enemy is revealed. In the meantime, David is trying to track more paths to get what he wants and confront that enemy and rediscover him.

The smartest move that this first episode makes is to transfer the audience into the perspective of a brand-new character, essentially using Switch's mutant power to rescue the story, the series, and the characters from the dour fate it created.

There's a clear direction, strong character motivations, and just enough that's new so the series doesn't repeat itself. It's something of a surprise to be sure, but definitely a welcome one.
