It's a rare thing but the pleasure of Doc Martin (ITV) is in the minor characters, the pepperings of humanity who surround Martin Clunes's borderline sociopathic central figure... But it goes off the rails when it strays from its quirky community beat.February 05, 2019
This is a welcome return of this funny, warm, strange and completely engaging series after a long hiatus.February 05, 2019
The on-again, off-again relationship between Martin and Louisa was teased to the point of exasperation by writers... To some extent this continues even throughout Series Six, but the show seems to have rediscovered its rhythm.February 05, 2019
This sort of gentle farce-cum-melodrama is much harder to pull off than it looks. To its credit, Doc Martin makes it look very easy.February 05, 2019
All our suspended disbelief in this light-hearted drama started tumbling down.February 05, 2019
Actor Martin Clunes is now so accomplished as this character, I am sure he could not put a plaster on a simple cut. Delightful stuff. It's not trendy but we love it.February 05, 2019
This enduring hit for ITV is by now rather flat... Ultimately what redeems Doc Martin is Clunes's ability to show what one might call expressive deadpan. It's almost up there with Roger Moore's eyebrows.February 05, 2019
Odd to say for such an enduring series but it feels like 'Doc Martin' still struggles with its tone... Still, Clunes is likeably lugubrious.
