I feel like the series is ready to stop placating to the lowest common denominator and start showing us exactly how bad things can get for a killer with a conscience.

The series succeeds by being a credible and entertainingly complicated psychological thriller with good characters, a sense of humor and especially a languid rhythm and sun-kissed look that belie the darkness and bloodiness of the stories.

The current season [of] Dexter was going along pretty well for a while. But this week - hoo, boy...I'll tune in next week to see how this plays out, but unlike Dexter, my heart's not really in it.

As long as the Dexter and Deb story continues to be strong, the show will slide into home.

If the record-setting ratings for Dexter as of late get it extended for another season, or more, that will mark the end of my viewership, because this is one ship I'd rather not go down with.
