Deutschland 83 - Season 1
A series of powerful and exciting events is detailed in a war story about a young man named Martin Rauch, a naive 24-year-old German soldier. Martin was appointed on an official mission as a spy for East Germany against West Germany. The mission of the soldier is to storm the hotel room, where NATO chief analyst Henrik Meyer lives, to steal a confidential report. Martin was a simple and naive border guard, but he was given that exciting task by Tischbier to hide in the ranks of the German West Army in Staci. Martin seems to be going badly, especially when Tischbier refuses many promises to help his mother suffering from diabetes in East Germany.

It's not as intense a viewing experience as The Americans... this is more of a straightforward, slightly lighter spy thriller, with lots of tension about whether our hero will be caught and if he'll ever be allowed to return home.

Deutschland 83 can be a little clunky at times, and most of it is subtitled. Nevertheless, it's a taut thriller with some cool '80s spy moments - near-miss escapes with sexual elements.
