I was disappointed when this crucial backstory now feels like a half baked episode where Mary (don't get me wrong- I love her!) orders pizza and Luke is still a total background character. This episode, to me, should have meant more.
December 11, 2019
This week's episode was dark and full of flashbacks, making it extremely reminiscent of early Arrow. It also made for one of the better episodes we've seen, and the emotional connections between the characters drove the plot forward.

The unsung awesome I want to point out before I wrap is the freakin' amazing camera work on display here drawing unmistakeable parallels between Alice's relationships.
December 11, 2019
It's unfortunate that Batwoman has chosen to trade in the awful trope of associating facial disfigurement with villainy. For a show that's going out of it's way to get things right for a number of marginalized groups... I expect better.

This week's episode took a small detour from Gotham City itself, diving into the origin of Elizabeth Kane/Alice... It's something that Kate and the audience have been eager to find out
December 11, 2019
This episode succeeds in fleshing out Alice's past and shedding some light on what motivates her in the present.
December 11, 2019
The storytelling is still sloppy, but for the most part, this episode does a good job of recounting how Beth became Alice, and how that story might influence the other characters.
December 12, 2019
Batwoman is walking a fine line with Kate and Alice, but, so far, it's working.
December 12, 2019
The other thing that makes this episode work is the lack of violence against Beth.

Even though this episode ended up being almost entirely expository, it also managed to be a showcase for the two best performers so far.
December 11, 2019
She is the point of the show and a good superhero so far, but Kate Kane can be the hero of her own story without the cap, and that's powerful in itself.
