The discipline it gave me, the overall freedom I feel with my body in general and the incredible appreciation it gave me for dance... those are things I will hold onto forever. My grandmother told me that for 15 straight years after the war she was completely unable to smile or laugh, that her heart would literally hurt when doing so...except when watching I Love Lucy. Watching Lucy in all her adventures was the only thing that enabled her to escape from the grief she felt so heavily and just enjoy life for a moment.The fact that a television show had the power to do that was never lost on me.
