Branagh has grown older and chunkier, and ungainlier at running, of which he had to do a lot. Yet the role feels like a replenishment, too.

Branagh is remarkable in the role. He was from the start but now he is obviously relishing the aging Wallander's doubts and frailty.

Branagh's performance deepens as the disease ravages Wallander's memory. He captures a proud man facing the worse betrayal imaginable, his own mind, leaving him lost and afraid in places and around people he's known for years.
