The half-hour episodes fly by without much happening apart from Sophia being rude to someone and asserting her independence. There is almost no character development because the point is to have the viewer adore the main character as she is.May 01, 2017
Did you hear that sound? That was another dull, pewter toll of the bell in the latest long threnody to the death of feminism.May 09, 2017
Likeability, of course, isn't a prerequisite for an interesting character, but unfortunately, the makers of Girlboss seem to think that Sophia (Britt Robertson) is adorably kooky rather than rude and obnoxious.April 24, 2017
Once Sophia finally starts to let go of her self-defeating instincts and make things happen for herself and for Nasty Gal, Girlboss becomes a lot more interesting, and a lot more fun.April 24, 2017
Girlboss may be fun, and there's a lot of fashion in it, but the show is nothing but a disservice to feminism.April 21, 2017
Watching an ignorant but energetic youngster rebel against adulthood is nothing new, and Girlboss' iteration would be fine if it showed some semblance of self-awareness.April 23, 2017
For all of Girlboss' bluster, the real problem isn't that its main character is unlikeable, it's that she's uninteresting.April 24, 2017
If Girlboss hadn't been based on the memoir and business guide from Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso, it might have been a better TV show.April 24, 2017
There's an element of Girlboss trying to have its cake and eat it.April 24, 2017
It tries to have its cake -- by occasionally drafting other characters to halfheartedly tell Sophia she's being a jerk -- and eat it too, by never really asking its audience to question whether they should be rooting for its main character.April 21, 2017
Girlboss is shallow and flippant and, just like its heroine, skates by on little beyond wit and style. Yet its scruffy charms are ultimately hard to resist.April 21, 2017
A little lightweight and far from perfect, Girlboss is still charming, vibrant and perfect for an easy binge.
