When tonight's episode - "Be True" (as in the Shakesperean "To thine own self...") - dunked the eldest of Emperor Lucious the First's three sons in the baptismal font, it also put him in the hot seat.

It's not that Empire hasn't had good moments in Season 2, but the appropriately named "Be True" is the first time the show has really felt like itself.

It's a disappointing twist. There have been so many family feuds and reconciliations in every single episode of Empire this season that there hasn't been a chance for the drama to escalate into a full-blown war, which the show really needs.

Empire's writers helpfully introduced this new group of antagonists to extort and terrorize Lyon Dynasty right at the moment when it doesn't seem like the First Family of Hip-Hop/Duplicity could hate each other more.

Whatever the pleasures audiences take in Empire's familial warfare, I think people also genuinely want to see the Lyons repair their relationships, and it seems as though Andre is laying the groundwork for such a thing to happen
