Arrow - Season 3 Episode 12: Uprising
Crime is down, people feel safer, and Captain Lance even calls off the Anti-Vigilante Task Force. Oliver believes he can finally have a private life and asks Felicity out on a date. But the second Oliver takes his eye off the ball, a deadly villain reappears in Starling, forcing Oliver to realize that he can never be Oliver Queen – not as long as the city needs The Arrow. In Season Three, Oliver faces an even greater threat, when another lethal face emerges from his dark and tortured past – Ra’s Al Ghul!

The Arrow writers this week... are counting on viewers not caring about things like "time" or "believability," which, I guess, is a time-honored comics tradition, too.

This episode of Arrow wasn't that exciting.

While this season has been spinning its wheels a bit, in retrospect I enjoyed the departure from the usual and the opportunity to let some of the secondary characters steal a bit more screentime.

Essentially, the entire episode is all build-up to the final 20 minutes -- a street brawl between Brick's men and Team Arrow, plus their allies.

Given how crazy a journey the flashback Malcolm has to go on in just a few short scenes... it's to the episode's great credit that the moment of transformation feels as plausible as it does.

"Uprising" gives Malcolm Merlyn the secret origin treatment, told in flashback form to give us a breather from the ongoing Hong Kong narrative.

The scene in which Detective Lance recognizes Roy in the Arsenal gear despite his voice changer and hood is absolutely hilarious, and I was glad to see Roy take lead in the assault on Brick.
