For such an epic spectacle, it's not burdened by a lot of clutter. It's intellectual complexity seems well-earned, not gratuitous. It's also visually stunning.

If you haven't read the source material I think you're going to dislike it even more than I did. So yeah, it's sort of bad news around here.
