Ivanhoe Martin (Jimmy Cliff) arrives in Kingston, Jamaica, looking for work and, after some initial struggles, lands a recording contract as a reggae singer. Wishing to become successful, Ivanhoe finds himself tied to corrupt record producers and drug pushers.
