It is a set of events that we live through that relationship established by Dan Dunn. Dan Dunn is the ideal teacher of the middle school in the ideal city, where he lives a completely different relationship in his life. Now, Dan has an unlikely friendship with one of his disciples after discovering his secret.

"Half Nelson" elegantly tiptoe around its elephant in the room: Dan's most compelling instruction to not let Drey enter the drug trade is his own destruction. That point of panic turns into something approaching penance.
