There is, without a doubt, an intensity to the performances given by Michael Shannon and Imogen Poots... The result though is a movie that is unrelenting in its grim outlook.December 09, 2016
Even with too much focus on the former character, Frank & Lola, buoyed by Shannon's performance and Ross' acute eye for the seediness of his environments, is a commendable debut.December 12, 2016
By the time Ross builds to a final shot that is utterly predictable in its ambiguity, it's hard to care either way about whether these two archetypal blanks will eventually reconcile the disturbing truths they have discovered about each other.December 09, 2016
Ross shows his talent by taking Frank & Lola places we don't expect it to go. They may not always make sense, but there's daring in the attempt and that is always worth something.December 08, 2016
Two of the most watchable actors on the planet are stranded in a numb sketch of a film that doesn't know what to do with them.December 09, 2016
Anyone who's ever wondered how Michael Shannon would fare as a smoldering romantic lead or how Imogen Poots might handle the role of a femme fatale has their answer in Matthew Ross' engaging psycho-thriller.December 14, 2016
As an exercise in voyeurism, this is a movie that sleeps on its feet. Shannon is too good for this nonsense, and Poots has got to do something about that disastrous name.December 08, 2016
This is the kind of debut that whets the appetite for what else this filmmaker has up his sleeve.January 19, 2017
Much like Elvis & Nixon, Michael Shannon stars in another small-scale film, focused mainly on two characters, and excels at it.December 08, 2016
However suspensefully the score groans and cries, the emotional stakes dwindle with each overemphatic narrative curve.December 10, 2016
Frank and Lola ultimately feels like less of a compelling, free-standing work than a promise of better movies to come.
