Eda Clayton, 12, lives with her single mother Eileen, but summer days in Ida are boring and full of nothing, so she started sneaking into cowboy competitions to enjoy her. Ida's father, a man Walker never met, is a subject Ellen rejects and talks about, part of why she is unhappy with Rodeo. When Ida is given the opportunity to tour America with The Sweethearts of the Rodeo, a group of young women who perform Rodeo shows, Ida takes her, and after several scenes, Elaine agrees.
