Apt Pupil
A high-school student (Brad Renfro) forms an unhealthy relationship with a former Nazi death-camp officer (Ian McKellen). He, obsessed with Nazism and acts of the Holocaust, persuades the officer to share his stories, and their relationship stirs malice in each of them.

"Pupil" demonstrates Singer's eye for framing shots and his skill in bringing out the best in his stars. Even so, there's something amiss here.
