Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Donovan studied theatre with Tony Award Winner, Joseph A. Walker. After a few years of performing with Walker's Intoto Theatre Company, Donovan continued his training and earned a BA degree in Theater from Temple University. Upon completing his studies, Donovan continued performing with regional theatre companies, which include Freedom Repertory Theatre, African Continuum Theatre, and Arena Stage.
